Charities and Fundraising events
Each year I choose a charity or cause(s) I wholeheartedly want to get
behind, not just to raise money but to utilise my love and expertise in
creating events, activities and fundraising ideas that will make a
difference to others by helping others step up and live life more fully
whilst also doing that for themselves as donors/sponsors/participants.
What a great WIN-WIN!
2013 Fundraising for Shave for a Cure Leukemia and Blood Foundation

With the idea in hand just 10 days before the event happened, a young
woman came to me and said she wanted to enlist some others and have
their heads shaven for Shave for a Cure. I helped her with ideas,
venue, event planning, fundraising initiatives and MC'ed the event on
the night. What a great night and we fundraised nigh on $2500! All
from the spark of a small idea. With my wild hair, I just couldn't part
with mine!!!With
the idea in hand just 10 days before the event happened on Sunday 10th
March, 2013 in Albany, a young woman came to me and said she wanted to
enlist some others and have their heads shaven for Shave for a Cure. I supported Liza with ideas, venue, event
planning, fundraising initiatives and MC'ed the event which was generously supported by Pickles Deli and
Cafe along with other local businesses.
What a great night and we fundraised nigh on $2500 - all from the spark
of a small idea. We cheered on Liza and her six
fellow 'shavees" - each with their own reasons and motivation to shave
their hair off to fundraise for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.
Gabrielle Gilbert - a beautiful up and coming singer also gave us some
great music to chill out to on such a lovely balmy evening. Details of event here
2013 Casper - Suicide Prevention Awareness - Waitangi Day

Casper Haka 4 Life
To those who have lost children, family members and friends to
suicide, we ask you to hikoi with us up to Waitangi on February 6th,
2013 to be part of a mass rally and world record haka attempt to bring a
new and long-lasting impact awareness to youth suicide in New Zealand.
This year Waitangi Day is about sharing the loss of life due to suicide
particularly those who fit into the youth category 15-24. New Zealand
has one of the worse rates of suicide in the world and we continue to
see an increase in the numbers of youth taking their own lives. We
stand together on this day to let go of
the pain that suicide leaves behind but we also stand for life, our
communities and our country on the day the Treaty of Waitangi was signed
back in 1840. Facebook event page for Casper Haka 4 Life. PS. This event was extraordinary! Check out the TVNZ clip here.
2012 Fundraising event for Hands Across the Water

Latin Fever Night Out with leading Auckland Latino band KANTUTA in aid of children orphaned by the 2004 Tsunami.
Put your hands up to be part of a fun night
of great dancing, music and people whilst making a difference! I am
inspired by a friend of mine Nickie Race Jones who is cycling 800kms in 8
days across Thailand in January and committed to raising $10000AUD to
free children of Thailand who were orphaned by the 2004 Boxing day
Tsunami from the horrors of trafficking and prostitution. 100% of ticket
sales, raffles and silent auction proceeds from this event go directly
to Hands Across the Water
whose mission is to provide the children and those in need of Kao Lak –
Thailand, with a caring and educational environment allowing them to
learn and expand their opportunities and empowering them to unite with
the community. Come join me on 28 November at the Kingslander, Auckland
for a great night of dancing, fun, people and prizes including a return
trip to Thailand up for grabs. More info and to buy your ticket click here.
PS. Nickie achieved the outstanding ride of
800km and raised her fundraising donation and got to hang out with the
kids at the orphange. You rock Nickie.
2012 Discovery for Teens
www.discoveryforteens.co.nz I supported Discovery for Teens (14-18 year olds) as a parent advocate at the Information Evenings. Three of my six children have attended this fabulous life skills and confidence building residential programme! Discovery also offer another programme for younger children called Bridging the Gap.
2012 Fundraising for Jump Start - for CanTeen and Project K kids
Leap Day Jump Start Your Life Fundraising event - this was a 2012 fundraiser I did in my private home to raise money to give teens from CanTeen and Project K an opportunity to leap out of a
plane with a parachute plus get the donors to have their own excitement for life
jump-started! I urged them to consider their own bucket list as they donated to a great cause. Then came the day to be on the plane with the teens!
May 5th, 2012 The big day!!! Yeah I was very excited about being part of this event. 50 teens from CanTeen - teenagers living with cancer and Project K - Maximising Youth Potential were given the opportunity of a tandem parachute jump. Jump Start's byline sums it up - the experience of being alive. Check out the TV news clip of what was an absolutely fabulous day. Thanks too to those who helped me fundraise online to allow these teenagers to have such a life changing experience, not to mention myself who got to stand 1 foot away from the open back door of a Royal NZ Airforce hercules for 20 minutes whilst simply being harnessed in near my feet! Cloudless day. Awe-inspiring to see these teens face their fears and excitement and feel really proud and successful! Here to is the official video of all the 50 teens having the time of there lives. What a day to be part of.
"Hi Janelle. Thanks for your email...awesome newsletter! Pleased to hear all the great things and thanks also to you...this event relies on "team work"...and Jump Start certainly has a great team around it. Great news is I have already heard back from the Chief of the Airforce...who has indicated the RNZAF are right behind us for 2013!" Tim Fastnedge - Jump Start Event Coordinator
2011 New York Marathon for CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust

2011 New York marathon charity CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust -
Whilst getting fit and completing my first ever marathon, having a fab
week in New York plus providing a great social and inspiration Reinvent
Yourself and What's Possible event for women, I also raised money
for my charity - not only helping people step up out of wheelchairs,
but in inspiring and empowering women at my event to step up in their
lives as well. What an awesome night. The very funky Nick Jones, the Violin Guy
was there playing his magic. We were inspired by Catriona Willlams - founder of CatWalk ( in a short
DVD clip of her completing the New York marathon), Allison Roe - winner
of the New York marathon in 1981, and local gals modelling Divine
fashion. The silent auction promoted local business people (see below) and over $5000 was raised in a night - all organised on a zero budget!
And who better to be with in New York the night before I did my first
ever marathon than then legendary marathon woman Kathrine Schwitzer www.kathrineschwitzer.com and my good kiwi/Swiss friend Pia who ran the marathon with me. Memorable New York moments. Following this event, I also represented CatWalk at the annual Attitude Awards - honouring and celebrating people with disabilities. I also followed this up with an article that featured in the CatWalk bi-annual magazine.
"Thank you so much for supporting Janelle and in turn supporting
the CatWalk Trust. Please note that all our runners pay their own way,
their own training expenses and any costs involved with completing this
Mt Everest of events, the New York marathon. It takes a very special
person to make that time and financial commitment, to step outside their
comfort zone and say "I'm going to do it" so to Janelle, from us all at
CatWalk and on behalf of everyone in a wheelchair who wants to realise
that dream of feeling the sand between their toes again, a standing hug
and a whimsical cartwheel just..'because'...we thank you." Catriona Williams founder of CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust

Check out who else is going to be there offering great products and services for you to silently bid on.
On the night too, many will have other special offers for you. You quite simply have to be there! Scroll on down to see what the Natural Sleep shop are offering!
2010 Oxfam Trailblazer 100km event

Yippee! My team raised over $2000 and we crossed the line in just under 24 hours. This got us fit, got us out seeing and enjoying Auckland coastlines in our training, it was a great social network for us four women in the team who lived at every corner of Auckland and we had a fab weekend in Taupo at the event, whilst making a huge difference to others experiencing poverty and disaster. We helped make a difference.Check out theMultisport and Triathlon magazine article about our team's success story.
Watch out for my fundraising activities and if you would like me to help you with ideas for fundraising, or you want to have fun, step up to a challenge or host or be part of a social event that could contribute to my / your cause, contact me.
