Dear Janelle
I felt compelled to write you after seeing you organise, present and also be MC at your recent fundraiser for Catwalk. I have been observing your progress over the last 6 years and I think this event represents a turning point for you! Not just for the funds raised so that you may run the New York marathon in November as part of the CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Team but for what was transformed on the night of the event itself. You are an inspiration for other woman to model and your leadership and confidence was a joy to watch.
As the evening unfolded I became aware of the commanding presence emanating from you and the level of energy in the room. It is often hard work maintaining the flow and attantion span at this kind of event, yet at each step people were rivetted. It was not about the garments, though they were important for the clothing sponsor. It was about the people in the garments, what you had learned about each of them, how you had harnessed their support and the telling of the individual stories that captured our attention.
The external glamour in the garments housed something quite special and you captured that as you brought each lady forward. You delivered with aplomb and used your gift for presenting with aplomb, taking the audience on a journey, touching hearts and evoking laughter!
You shared the intimate details of each womans journey through life, almost all of them challenged more than once by life events, and your told us how they made it through. You showed us the strength of women and what we bring to community and how we can empower and liberate each other from circumstances. You showed us an enduring possibility Janelle!
I think the thing I marvel about the most with you is, you have come from a place of feeling “stripped and bare” to the present where you now stand as evidence of the reclaimation process you chose to follow. You are one of the most beautiful, resourceful and courageous women I know and I see you being accessed for the life changing contribution you can bring. New York November 2011 will be your launch pad! Congratulations!
